Occupational therapy (physical and mental health)
The role of an occupational therapist is to help, monitor and support the client in order for him to reach or recover optimal and satisfactory functioning in his daily life (work, family, leisure, etc). The occupational therapist has the skills needed to act on both physical and mental problems. Interventions are conducted individually or in groups, depending on the needs of each client.
The occupational therapist namely uses teaching and a global approach, focused on the client, to meet the therapeutic goals set.
Among the various spheres touched by the occupational therapist, there are :
- Recovering optimal functional autonomy :
- Balanced occupational schedule
- Sleep hygiene
- Active management of pain and symptoms
- Self-confidence / self-esteem / self-assertion
- Respecting one’s limits and letting go
- Stress and anxiety management and relaxation techniques
- Postural hygiene and joint protection
- Energy conservation principles
- Functional activity program targeting the person’s difficulties (physical, cognitive, etc. capacities)
- Being able to return to work :
- Identification of obstacles linked to the return to work and pre-injury activities and implementation of strategies to act on them
- Work task simulations
- Support in the work environment if necessary
