Common conditions we treat

BPPV

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo or BPPV, is a common inner ear disorder that causes brief episodes of dizziness or vertigo triggered by certain head movements. Physiotherapists treat BPPV by helping reposition the displaced otoliths within the inner ear. BPPV can vary in severity and complexity, and the appropriate treatment approach may differ for each individual.

Chronic Pain

Concussion

Concussions are a form of mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) that are the result of a forceful impact to the brain. Concussions can cause a variety of symptoms, both physical and cognitive, like headaches, dizziness, confusion, memory problems, nausea, and sensitivity to light or noise. Physiotherapists focus on addressing the physical symptoms and promoting recovery through a gradual and individualized process.

Dizziness and Balance

Symptoms of dizziness or balance issues can have many causes including inner ear disorders (like vertigo (BPPV), Meniere's disease, vestibular neuritis, or labyrinthitis), neurological conditions (like concussions) or musculoskeletal problems in the neck or back. Physiotherapists assess and treat dizziness and balance issues by creating personalized treatment plans, monitoring progress, and provide ongoing support to enhance overall function and quality of life.

Headaches

Headaches can be the result of various causes, and it's important to understand the underlying issues of a headache. Physiotherapists are ideal practitioners to treat headaches, particularly those related to musculoskeletal factors related to tension headaches, cervicogenic (neck related) headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches. Physiotherapists can work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to ensure a holistic approach to headache management.

Pelvic floor tension

TMJ

TMD refers to a group of conditions that cause pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and surrounding muscles. TMD can can be caused by jaw joint misalignment, muscle tension or spasm, teeth grinding or clenching (bruxism), arthritis, trauma, or stress. Physiotherapists address the underlying causes of TMD to relieve pain and improve jaw function.

Urinary incontinence

Urinary incontinence (UI) is the involuntary loss of urine, whether it's mild or severe. It's estimated that nearly 1.5 million Canadians of all ages suffer from some form of UI. The two most common forms of UI are stress incontinence and urge incontinence. Physiotherapists specializing in pelvic health are trained to assess and treat all forms of UI.

Vertigo

Vertigo is the sensation of imbalance, dizziness, or a spinning feeling of the world around you. It is most commonly caused by an imbalance in the inner ear. An evaluation and treatment program by a qualified vestibular therapist can provide assistance.

Virtual Care

Virtual Care leverages video conference technology to provide services, including online physiotherapy, at a distance. Our video conference platform, built for healthcare professionals, allows you to consult a Lifemark clinician in the comfort of your own home.

A clinician can assess or treat you, evaluate your range of motion, recommend exercises, give you advice on pain and pain management and much more.

Services from our specialty programs, such as pelvic health or concussion care, are also available through Virtual Care.

Secure, convenient online services

Virtual Care uses video conference technology to provide services at a distance that are private, secure and easy to use while giving you more flexibility by reducing travel time.

By removing accessibility and mobility barriers, Virtual Care ensures you can receive the care you need. Your privacy is protected through robust policies and safeguards and our clinicians are required to meet the same regulatory and legislative requirements and adhere to their respective Standards of Practice and Code of Conduct as they do for in-person services.

How it works

Before your appointment, you will receive a link to an online appointment session by email or text message. This link will take you to a video conference platform that will allow you to connect with your clinician and discuss your condition with them in real time.

You may be required to review and complete documentation before your appointment, which will be sent to you ahead of time.
